DAILY OUTLINE
What the days will look like
We start with a hearty breakfast at the hotel and adapt the timings to suit the weather forecast each day. We will pack our gear into the landrover after breakfast and head out to the most suitable location given the weather and wind forecast that day.
The best use of each day is important, and equally important is balancing this with everyone's comfort. We often stop for tea or coffee on location after a few hours and continue photographing until lunchtime. Lunches are usually taken at places like the Butty Bus, which serves fresh homemade soup outdoors, or a cafe stop. If the weather is really against us, we may return to the hotel for a while to have lunch and take the time to do some editing while it passes. However, if everything is flowing and the photographic opportunities are there, we tend to stay outdoors all day.
If we have been out all day, we will have some time to relax before meeting for dinner in the evening around 6.30pm. But if we have had a more relaxed day, we often meet a couple of hours before dinner so that I can help you with your images or lightroom. A small group means that I can help everyone individually.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation for this Isle of Harris photographic workshop is your own responsibility, but rooms have been reserved at the Harris Hotel. The hotel is in Tarbert, close to the ferry terminal and only 20 mins drive to the beaches of Harris. The food is excellent at the hotel and we will gather in the evenings for dinner together. The Hotel also has a bar and plenty of lounge space for gathering for editing and discussion.
Payment for your own accommodation and meals at the end of your stay can be made direct to the hotel. The hotel has arranged a special delegate only rate for you with no single supplement.

TRAVEL
How to get to the workshop
There are two ways to travel to the Outer Hebrides. By plane which arrives in Stornoway on Lewis, or by ferry.
PLANE : Collection from Stornoway airport approx 2 pm on the 6th Feb. Please note that it is a 3 hour round trip to collect you, so I will make only one collection on the start date. You may consider flying in the day before and staying in Stornoway. I can recommend the Stornoway B & B if you are staying overnight.
FERRY Drive and catch the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry or Skye (Uig) to Tarbert (Harris) ferry. You can also leave your car at either ferry port free of charge and walk on.
Ullapool - Stornoway. The morning ferry arrives at Stornoway at 1.15. I am able to collect. Uig - Tarbert. Arrives at Tarbert where the hotel is located about 5 mins' walk away. You can view timetables and book tickets on the Calmac website, Please note that during the winter months, both ferries are liable to disruption or cancellation. Your tickets are transferrable if you need to switch ferries and generally, delays are at most 1 day. It may be advisable to consider arriving on the island a day early.
Drop off in Stornoway by 11.30 am on our final day.
